CPEU Course Description

Circadian rhythms refer to self-sustained fluctuations with a period of approximately 1 day in various physiological processes.  This CPEU course looks at how disruptions in sleep and circadian rhythms interfere with illness recovery.

CPEU Course Objectives

  1. Compare the daytime light levels in the ICU to that of natural sunlight.
  2. Describe normal sleep architecture.
  3. Explain how delirium incidence in non-intubated patients is reduced.
  4. Evaluate the impact of nocturnal light exposure.
  5. Identify which GABA agonist has been shown to more closely create natural sleep.
