CEU Course Description

Good nutrition is essential for the growth and development that occurs during an infant’s first year of life.  This CEU course focuses on nutrition assessment, the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), and background information on important nutrients needed during infancy.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Explain what the American Academy of Pediatrics states about the restriction of fat and cholesterol.
  2. Investigate for which vitamin the dietary need increases as protein intake increases.
  3. Examine what should not be fed to infants due to its very high renal solute load.
  4. Identify the fruit juices that contain a significant amount of sorbitol and causes diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating.
  5. Provide the two additional amino acids that are considered essential for the preterm and young term infant.
  6. Describe what the DRIs for infants are based on.
