CPEU Course Description

Food allergy is currently recognized as a rising problem worldwide.  This CPEU course investigates the agreement of skin prick tests (SPT) and specific Immunoglobulin E (sIgE) results in those presenting with suspected food allergy and directly compares Immulite and ImmunoCAP IgE assays.

CPEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the relationship between allergy to pollen and food allergies.
  2. Explain the reason behind the greater frequency of clinical peanut allergy.
  3. Investigate which diagnostic test will provide definitive evidence of an IgE mediated food allergy rather than sensitization.
  4. Examine for which foods SPT and sIgE results show near perfect agreement.
  5. Scrutinize how often serum specific IgE has been reported to be in agreement with skin prick testing.
  6. Identify the gold standard diagnostic test for a food allergy.
